Signs Your Water Purifier Needs Maintenance or Replacement

Your water purifier works hard every day—but like any machine, it needs care to keep delivering clean, safe water. Ignoring the signs can lead to health risks, poor water quality, and costly damage.

Here are the most common signs your RO or water purifier needs maintenance—or complete replacement.

⚠️ 1. Change in Water Taste or Smell

If the water starts tasting bitter, metallic, or smells odd, your filters may be clogged or expired.

💧 2. Slow Water Flow

A drop in water pressure or slow output is a sign that filters or membranes are blocked and need replacement.

🔴 3. Filter Change Light Is On

Most modern purifiers come with an indicator—if it’s blinking or red, it’s time for a service.

⚙️ 4. Unusual Noises

If your RO system is making humming, buzzing, or gurgling sounds—it may have air bubbles, pump issues, or loose fittings.

🦠 5. Visible Sediment in Water

If you see particles or cloudiness in the water, the sediment filter may have failed—don't drink it until checked.

📅 6. It’s Been Over 6–12 Months

If your purifier hasn’t been serviced in over 6–12 months, schedule a check-up—even if it seems fine.

🔁 7. Frequent Repairs

If you’re calling the technician too often, it might be more economical and safer to replace the unit with a new RO system.

🧰 Mr. Filterwala’s Tip:

Always replace pre-filters every 6 months, and RO membranes every 12–18 months, depending on usage and water TDS.
